The Earliest Girl Scout Cookies Were Homemade

AN EARLY GIRL SCOUT COOKIE RECIPE

Ingredients

1 cup Butter
1 cup Sugar plus additional quantity for topping (elective)
2 eggs
2 tablespoons Milk
1 teaspoon Vanilla
2 cups Flour
1 teaspoon Salt
2 teaspoons Baking Powder
Directions:

Cream butter and the cup of sugar
Add nicely-overwhelmed eggs, then milk, vanilla, flour, salt, and baking powder.
Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Roll dough, reduce into trefoil shapes.
Sprinkle sugar on top, if preferred.
Bake in a short oven (375°) for about 8 to ten mins or till the edges begin to brown.
Makes six- to seven-dozen cookies.

In 1933 Philadelphia Girl Scouts baked cookies and offered them in the town’s fuel and electric company windows. This proved so a hit that during 1934 Greater Philadelphia have become the first council to sell commercially baked cookies.

In 1935 the Girl Scout Federation of Greater New York followed healthy. Buying its own die in the form of a trefoil, the organization used the phrases Girl Scout Cookies at the container.

In 1936 the national Girl Scout organisation started to license the first industrial bakers to produce cookies that could be sold by girls in Girl Scout councils. The love of Girl Scout Cookies quickly spread national.

During World War II, while sugar, flour and butter had been in brief supply, Girl Scouts bought calendars to elevate cash for their activities.

After the War the scouts went returned to the loved cookies and by means of 1948 a complete of 29 bakers for the duration of the country were baking Girl Scout Cookies.
